#51 Christina Rebaschus, b. 14 February 1817/1818. Her birthdate is given as 14
February on her gravestone, but her death record indicates that the family was not sure of
the exact date. Not surprising, her death records states she was born in Lithuania and at
that time it belonged to Prussia!
Christina was united in marriage to Abraham Peishcan, about 1838. This union was
blessed with thirteen children, seven of whom we have information: (For continuation of
their lines, see Section II, Part I).

Unfortunately, eight of her children died in Germany, most as a result of a raging
pestilence that swept the country about that time. In 1869, two of her children and one
son-in-law set sail for America; namely, Louise and Christian Sachs and Wilhelmina
Peischan (later to become Wilhelmina Hahn). No doubt, they encouraged their parents
to come to America. So Christina in the company of her husband, two children, Bertha
(Dauskardt) and Rudolph and her daughter's family, Auguste Peischan Herzmann and
family, set sail for America in 1871.
(For Complete details, see Section II, Part I).
Upon arrival in America, they went to St. Sebald where they stayed with friends for a
short time before moving to Elkport, Iowa. After staying there a few years, the family
again relocated at St. Sebald on a very small farm. Christina lost her husband in 1886.
She then stayed with her son, Rudolph and daughter and son-in-law, Louise and
Christian Sachs, until Rudolph's marriage in 1890 and Christian's death in 1890.
Then Christina continued to live with her daughter, Louise, until she passed away.
Communion records at St. Sebald Luthern church near Strawberry Point indicate that
Abraham and Christina took communion: III Sunday in Trinity, 1873; First Sunday in
Advent, 1877; Resurrection Sunday, 1880; XV Sunday in Trinity, 1883; XVI Sunday
after Trinity 1885. Even before her death, Christina took communion on the XXIII
Sunday in Trinity 1895 with her daughter, Louise Sachs.
Christina died 18 December 1895, at 6 p.m. from old age and strokes. She was buried
on December 20, 1895; aged 77 years and about 10 months. G.H. Fuehr took his sermon
text from John 14:18. She is buried by her husband at St. Sebald.
